Savoring our last few days in Tuscany

As our inner clocks began to adjust to a slower, gentler beat, we noticed how effortlessly nature in all its glory is celebrated in Tuscany. The stylized cypress trees carved into stone adorning an old church. Della Robbia's glorious 12th century celebration of nature's bounty on display at the Bargello Museum in Florence.

But, there's artistry, too, in the cascading plants complementing the hanging laundry -- a scene repeated endlessly in the jumble of Italy's Medieval streets.

WINDING DOWN
with one last dinner

. . . then quiet contemplation.

Baskets in hand, we headed into the woods laced with walking trails to pick the chestnuts we would roast in the fireplace that evening with our wonderful hosts, Rita and Enrico.

As we walked back, we snipped a few more grape clusters. Sweet and liquid down the throat, the grapes were a perfect accompaniment to the smoky, roasted chestnuts.

The day before we leave,

Helen relaxes at a local cafe on a quiet country road in the Chianti hills, happy having just found a source of hard-to-get seeds she had been seeking for years.

And so, our trip to Tuscany comes to an end, but the memories linger. And, the inspiration to create small vignettes of beauty here at home grows stronger.
